It’s fantastic that women have this day, for centuries the work of women has gone unnoticed. I constantly tell my daughters they are born at a time that they can achieve anything as doors will be open for them to walk through with the knowledge that if they work hard then they will have no blockers in their careers. As a working mum it’s always been difficult to balance time for work, family, husband, parents, siblings and friends. Somehow we do it, but I still don’t know whether everyone in my family and parents see enough of me. My career was definitely impacted when I made the decision to spend more time with my family 21yrs ago as flexible working or working from home was a very unique concept. By the time I had my second child asking for flexible working was easier and thankfully my Director at the time understood the need as both him and his wife had felt the pressures in their home life.
My mother is my inspirational woman not only had she fought in a War, survived an abusive relationship and then re-married the most important man in my life; the man I call dad. When I had my first daughter she did everything in her power to support me in my career. I remember going back to work and my daughter was six month still breastfeeding and being asked to go to Stockholm for a week. Thank God for mum and dad they had a six month baby and somehow managed to bottle feed her for the first time and give her on a routine that worked when I returned.
Women it’s time to spread your wings and fly as nothing can stop you….we should continue to inspire all our daughters as they grow, by encouraging them and letting know they can be whoever they want to be!!
